When I asked the musician, composer, and ethnomusicologist Julian Lynch (also of the band Real Estate) to create a remix of “Good Start,” I found that his inventive take on my song yielded all kinds of surprises. In his version, the song is sunny and sweet—and remains so even as it dips into a minor key during the chorus. This video, inspired by his remix, features footage of him playing his infectious guitar riff that, in another creative reinvention, he shot on his phone himself during Covid.
