Each song I cover in my 2022 LP Closer Than They Appear has its own deep emotional resonance for me, often invoking a particular moment or period in my life with immediacy. In the album, I direct my connections to these songs into my interpretations of material by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Lucinda Williams, Low, The Notwist, and American Music Club, among others. It also features two bonus tracks: remixes of earlier covers of mine by producer/mixer Roy Merchant (Basement Jaxx) and OK Go drummer Dan Konopka.
