This music video, inspired by the penultimate track on The Present, was directed by the filmmaker Stacy Cochran. 

I reached out to Stacy in the summer of 2024, hoping I might be able to convince her to shoot a video for one of the tracks on the album. She chose “The Boss,” a song that reckons with the death of my father a few years earlier. The track includes a reference to a visit my dad made to NYC not long after 9/11, and Stacy had the idea of creating something that entwined the darkness of that day and its aftermath with the more personal loss that haunts the song.

She proposed reaching out to 9/11 Memorial architect Michael Arad (who wrote a remarkable essay about creating the memorial in Esopus 21), and Michael ended up playing the role of the father in the film, which Stacy shot with cinematographer Tony Jannelli on and around September 11, 2024.
