This exquisite small found sculpture, held in a photo here by me, was created by musician and artist Lonnie Holley during a recording session at Brooklyn’s Figure Eight studio, where I visited him in the spring of 2018. While Lonnie was there putting the finishing touches on his Jagjaguwar album Mith, he also recorded “Why Did the Man Talk to a Horse Off in the Bar?” his powerful opening track for the Esopus 25 CD, which featured original songs by musicians inspired by jokes.
