In Esopus 4 (Spring 2005), musicologist and musician Daniel Tannehill Neely wrote “Soft Serve,” a fascinating piece charting the history of ice-cream-truck music. This drawing is from one of a series of photos I took of a Mister Softee truck one afternoon in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood; a crop of the photo appeared in the background of the article’s title page.
