Graphite on paper, 2018. 14 by 11 inches.

The artist Bryan Nash Gill (1961–2013) created a stunning installation at Esopus Space—which happened to be our last exhibition in the venue—in 2012. Called What Was Will Be Again, it consisted of a massive, wall-sized 10-color woodblock print that replicated the space’s oriented strand board (OSB) flooring. For his related artist’s project in Esopus 18, we published photographs of the installation as well as a series of die-cut foldouts related to his process of creating the print. For the issue’s cover, Bryan offered one of the woodblocks used to create the print. I took the photo on which this drawing is based the day the first boxes of these issues arrived at Esopus Space.
