Graphite on paper, 2018. 14 by 11 inches.
Over the course of five issues, I was able to work with the curator, writer, and archivist John Jacob on our “Analog Recovery” series, which featured little-seen, and in many cases never-before-published, work from the Magnum Photos Archive. This drawing is from one frame of a 1949 photo essay, featured in Esopus 19 (Spring 2013), by Magnum photographer Burt Glinn (1925–2008), whose subject was Rosita Royce, a featured dancer who performed with six pigeons in “A Night in Venice,” an outdoor variety show at Jones Beach Stadium.
