One of the first short scripts I wrote after leaving my post as the editor of Scenario was called Spectacles—a dark comedy with a simple premise: What would happen if a stranger starting giving away “home-baked” cookies on a busy street in New York City?

Spectacles became my first short film—with a new title, Cookies—which was shot on the Lower East Side in 1999 and released that same year.
