Family Romance

Unproduced screenplay. First draft: May 9, 2001. Length: 123 pages.

Family Romance interweaves the stories four protagonists: Connie and Stan, a husband and wife in their late 60s who are participating in a sex-tape series featuring mature couples; their asexual daughter, Joanne, a business executive and aspiring actress; and Bryan, a closeted leading man in Hollywood films. The script—easily the most cynical piece of writing I’ve ever produced—was meant to interrogate the performative aspect of contemporary existence. While some of its material feels a little dated, the script also anticipates the increasingly malignant influence of social media.
