This standalone single is my take on a wistful song made popular by Bing Crosby in 1931, and since covered by everyone from Frank Sinatra to Nico. It’s a classic Depression-era tune whose message—you can get through troubled times by dreaming of better days—seemed particularly relevant after Covid struck the world in the late winter of 2020. I’ve always loved this song for its pathos: while it offers an optimistic approach for dealing with hardship, it can also be interpreted as an appeal for escapism in the face of a harsh, frightening reality.

The video was made quickly and cheaply by me in the darkest early days of the pandemic by strolling through my Brooklyn neighborhood with an iPhone, and then incorporating footage I’d taken years earlier from the window of a plane.
