The second issue of Esopus featured artists’s projects by William Christenberry (a ground-breaking paper sculpture), David Scher, and Hilary Lloyd. Other contents included the first in a series of monologues titled “Dear Sissy“ by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis; “Ten Rivers to Cross,” an essay by Edward McPherson detailing his 10 consecutive viewings of the film Mystic River; Pamela A. Iviniski’s “Obituary Birthday,” a resonant consideration of the legacy of Kurt Cobain; “Haunted,” a reflection by choregrapher Christopher Wheeldon on creating work to the music of composer György Ligeti (with photographs by David Michalek of New York City Ballet principals Wendy Whelan and Jock Soto performing Wheeldon’s choreography); Alex Shear’s Object Lesson #2; and 100 frames from Chantal Akerman’s 2000 film La Captive, with an essay about the film by Amy Taubin.
The issue concluded with the themed audio CD “Missed Connections,” for which musician-couples musician-couples that included Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth as well as the members of Low and agf/dlay created songs inspired by Craig's List “Missed Connections” posts.
