Columbia College, Chicago, March 15, 1996

This panel discussion with screenwriters Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects), Barbara Turner (Georgia), and Danny Rubin (Groundhog Day) covered a range of topics, including the advantages and disadvantages of writing on spec, the logistics of working with directors and producers, strategies for protecting the integrity of your screenplay, and an examination of the ethics of rewriting another person's work. The panel, which I moderated, kicked off a weekend-long screenwiting workshop—CineStory Script Sessions—copresented by Columbia College, Chicago, and Scenario.
