The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY, June 22, 2023
I had the pleasure of leading this conversation, held at MoMA’s library in midtown Manhattan, about archives as a site for contemporary artistic practice with artists Mary Ellen Carroll and Mary Lum. Throughout the event, Carroll and Lum reflected on their practice in general while also discussing the projects they created for the 2020 publication Modern Artifacts.
The event was part of a new series created by Michelle Elligott, the Museum’s Chief of Archives, Library, and Research Collections. Titled “Dialogues in the Archives,” its past programs have focused on Adam Pendleton’s publishing practice and David Getsy’s award-winning book Queer Behavior: Scott Burton and Performance Art.
